Text as Art

During my current job as a paraprofessional, I sit a lot. Sometimes the student needs me, sometimes not. But of course, I’m an adult, so I can multitask. I’ve been taking my sketchbook around with me all year. The students love to see what I’m doing; it’s usually way cooler than the academics they have to endure LOL.

Trick is, I have to do some drawing and design that isn’t complicated or all-consuming. So I’ve returned to my hand-writing. Overlapping, trying fonts and cursive, reflecting how I’m feeling or doing, or what I need to inspire me in that very moment.

These are just a few examples. They take a couple hours, and the color choices are very intentional. I see them as a stained glass of sorts, black-leaded between pieces of colored glass, allowing the light through. I’m building my own sacred space, perhaps.
